Job Description Summary <\/div> The Intake Coordinator will coordinate inpatient admissions including expediting response to referral inquiry, insuring benefits are available to cover admission, obtaining insurance authorization for admission, obtaining social and demographic information to support compliance and discharge plan. Analyzes clinical, financial and socio-demographic information to direct referral to appropriate level of care. Communicates necessary information to Patient Financial Services, care teams, care managers. The Intake Coordinator will consistently demonstrate support of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab statement of Vision, Mission and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute. Job Description <\/div>
The Intake Coordinator: <\/div>
  • Receives, screens and responds to requests for general information regarding rehabilitation services and programs at SRAlab. <\/div><\/li>
  • Conducts tours of the Institute for families, case managers, and clinical staff from referring facilities. <\/div><\/li>
  • Verifies patient benefits and initiates the pre-certification process, utilizing internal and external resources to identify additional coverage options. <\/div><\/li>
  • Identifies opportunities for improvements to enhance efficiency and outcomes. <\/div><\/li>
  • Educates referring professionals, case managers, patients and families on the spectrum of rehabilitation services available in the SRAlab system of care. <\/div><\/li>
  • Communicates medical (e.g. TB skin test requirements, infectious disease issues, dialysis, etc.) and financial clearance guidelines to referral sources and collaborates with admission consultants to ensure medical stability is assessed prior to admission for inpatients. <\/div><\/li>
  • Enters patient demographic, insurance, funding, and medical information in the MIS. <\/div><\/li>
  • Collaborates with Admission Consultant nurses, physicians and other clinical personnel to ensure timely determination of appropriate level of care\/program. <\/div><\/li>
  • Researches and verifies patient payment coverage by accessing electronic payer data bases, conferring with third party payors, case managers, attorneys, Patient Financial Services, and public aide applications, expediting to consultant and other parties involved in third party payment for medical expenses. <\/div><\/li>
  • Communicates extraordinary funding or concurrent review requirements as well as patient family special needs (i.e. guardianship, private duty nursing, dialysis, interpreters, radiation, chemotherapy, and transportation arrangements) to appropriate clinical team members prior to admission. <\/div><\/li>
  • Determines need for additional funding to cover inpatient admission and initiates Medicaid and\/or SRAlab charity care application <\/div><\/li>
  • Communicates financial and, when requested by Admission Consultant, clinical denials for inpatient admission to referral source and patient or family when appropriate. Provides rationale and recommendations for alternate care when communicating denials. <\/div><\/li>
  • Obtains consents for treatment prior to admission from patient's Legally Authorized Representative (LAR) or ensures that LAR will accompany patient to sign consents in cases where patient cannot consent themselves. <\/div><\/li>
  • Perform all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. <\/div><\/li> <\/ul>

    • Reports directly to the Director, Inpatient Access <\/div><\/li> <\/ul>
      Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: <\/div>
      • Work requires level of knowledge typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in business, social work, health care administration or related field. <\/div><\/li>
      • One to two years previous experience in health care financial clearance is preferred for knowledge of patient admission, registration procedures, benefits, and financial clearance procedures. <\/div><\/li>
      • Strong customer service skills and interpersonal skills necessary to interact with all levels of personnel, physicians, insurance representatives and referrers. <\/div><\/li>
      • Analytical skills necessary to ensure referrals, financial clearance and admissions are managed in compliance with standards and to identify unusual circumstances that could put the Institute or the patient\/family at financial risk. <\/div><\/li>
      • Demonstrates excellent time management in meeting or beating deadlines as well as establishing and meeting deadlines for tasks that support timely patient admission. <\/div><\/li>
      • Demonstrates excellent teamwork in collaborating with physicians, other admitting staff, Global Patient Services staff, care managers, PFS staff and other co-workers to improve outcomes and efficiency in individual cases and department processes. <\/div><\/li>
      • Working knowledge of Windows operating environment and Microsoft Office software applications. <\/div><\/li> <\/ul>
