About CompTool
We’re still comp people at heart
CompTool was built by compensation professionals, and our team remains compensation analysts. Much of our day-to-day work is still similar to yours: we market price jobs, evaluate pay structures and help write job descriptions.
Our story
Built by a compensation analyst who wanted a better tool
CompTool is a compensation management tool founded by a compensation analyst who was frustrated by salary survey managers that were too complicated, too expensive or too cumbersome.
Justin Hampton developed CompTool and Squirrel while serving on compensation teams at several companies. CompTool actually started out as an Access database, because the market pricing solutions available at the time were too expensive. After several years of using the database at different companies, Justin turned it into what is now CompTool.
Because we’re still doing the same work as you are, we’re refining our software the way you would. If a button doesn’t do what we expect, we change it. If we find a better way to market price jobs, we build it into the software. Our vision is aligned with yours and everything we do is pointed at that vision.
At CompTool, we don’t think of you as a client. We think of you as a peer, and our goal is for your team to think of us the same way.

Before founding CompTool, Justin spent 15 years as a compensation practitioner, at consulting firms and on comp teams at companies including Starbucks, Greyhound and Big Fish Games, in the US and the UK.
What we believe
How we work with compensation teams
Client-centric approach
Customer feedback is one of our biggest sources of inspiration. If you think there’s a better way, we want to know. Most of our new features have come from our customers’ feedback.
Transparency and integrity
We are more focused on the customer experience than meeting revenue targets. Our pricing is fair, billing is transparent, and the way we operate is about building relationships and supporting teams the way we wanted to be supported as compensation analysts.
Built for global teams
90% of our customers have global operations and rely on CompTool to bring large-scale data and complex compensation programs together, in every country they pay in.
